We are coming upon a popular holiday, Valentine’s Day and the topic of love is heard everywhere!
What does God say about love? He writes more about love than many other things, but my favorite verse is 1 Corinthians:13:4-8: “Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn’t selfish or quick-tempered. It doesn’t keep record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails!”
When we meditate on what this verse says, it seems to me; the world would be a better place if we all grabbed onto this truth about what love really is.
C.S. Lewis has many quotes about love, one quote states: “Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.” This is exactly how God feels about us. People who have been hurt a lot struggle with this concept of a God who loves without expecting anything in return, without conditions. Why does He do this? God is love, it is Who He is. Another quote by C.S. Lewis: “God loves us NOT because we’re lovable, because He is love. Not because He needs to receive, because He delights to give.”
When we truly love someone, we do love without condition and because we delight to give to those who we truly love. With true love, as C.S Lewis stated. “To love at all is to be truly vulnerable.” There will always be a sacrifice. Jesus gave His life for the sake of all of us. He became the sin, sickness and shame, so that those who believe in Him have a chance to start again, ask God to forgive you today and surrender all pain, sickness and suffering at His feet, accept Him into your life as Lord. He died for you, He rose from the grave, so you may have eternal life! You will receive the greatest dose of love that you have ever experienced in your life.
