“Light Your Lamp”

Are you keeping your lamp lit?

light in the darkness
Do not let your light go out

In Luke 12:35 (CEV)Be ready and keep your lamps burning just like those servants who wait up for their master to return from a wedding feast. As soon as He comes and knocks, they open the door for Him. Servants are fortunate if their master finds them awake and ready when He comes! I promise you He will get ready and let His servants sit down so He can serve them. Those servants are really fortunate if their master finds them ready, even though He comes late at night or early in the morning. You surely would not let a thief break into your home, if you knew when the thief is coming. So always be ready! You don’t know when the Son of Man will come. This commentary was powerful to me by MacLaren’s Expositions. I will share some of what I found in here marked ME, the rest is MM or me. When our Lord and King comes back there are 3 things that we surely need:1. Gird our loins, 2. light our lamps and keep them burning, and 3. Have waiting hearts. (ME)

As they indicated in this expose these things should stir us like a sounding trumpet for all. (ME) In those days a warrior would prepare for battle by wrapping their loins heavily to maintain a safe covering for those in fighting in battle. (ME) In general being ready for service for our King. Another way is to pray fervently for all that comes next for everyone as we receive our King. We need not be distracted, or worship other idols, or detached from what is expected of us. Stay focused. 2. We need to keep our lamps lit. He is talking about His word, His laws, His precepts, rules and guidelines handed down from the Father to teach us, direct us and guide us. God’s word should be what we gird our minds with to concentrate the power of God in each person serving Him. Psalms 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet.” Stay filled with His word.

3. The waiting heart. If we do not concentrate on who or what we are waiting for then we lose sight of what we are doing, we also lay aside our will to please Him. God’s word says good things come to those who wait, He also wants us to keep pure hearts. He desires that the conditions of our hearts remain right and clean, ready for His work. Scriptures say whatever we treasure, there our heart is. He wants us to have thankful hearts. Broken, forgiving hearts, pliable for His good purposes. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The condition of our hearts is critical in our walk with the Lord. Some people are too wrapped up in the past, trying to live it over to make it better, trying to rectify something that is no longer important. This will create a smokescreen or a sandstorm for us not to be able to see who we really are or what we really want and desperately need in order to walk right for Him.

The past is gone, it is over -you do not need to relive it anymore. You have more important things to do for Him right now. Focus on the main things that we need to acquire in order to walk right and serve Him correctly.

If you have never asked the Jesus to be Lord of your life, it’s not too late, ask Him right now. He died taking on all the sins of the world, rose again, so that we may have eternal life, an abundant life, a free life. Light those lamps and keep them fueled with the word of God.
