Only God Gives Life
All of us in this life, make decisions, good or bad (this is to be determined by each person’s own experience with personal consequences). Although we have made it through some very important, positive choices, and were grateful that things worked out well. Chances are, we sighed in relief when we did find our choice to be the right one. At the same time, we have all done things that did not work out very well for each of us. People are always glad to offer their opinion, however, what works out for some people may not work the same for someone else.
I have heard people say, it’s not like we have a handbook on life. I say to them, but we do have a handbook, the guide that we all would do well to adhere to is called the Holy Bible, or the Living Word of God. Some of the most steadfast direction about life is written within the 66 books of the bible that have inspired laws, influenced culture, and uplifted billions in faith over 3 millennia.
Of course, I have very personal reasons for believing. When I was a big mess in my life. I had buried my firstborn daughter, I had just had my second child and one day God spoke to me clearly as I sat in my living room. He said, “Go get your Bible.” Truth be told, I did not have a Bible. So, I went searching in a friend’s box of possessions and found a Bible.
God loved us so much that He took the time to have His prophets, disciples, and servants like Moses and past Kings record all that He had instructed for His people to do to help them survive through life.
I sat holding onto to the Bible for dear life and asked God, “What do You want to tell me?” He told me to read the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3:16-28.
These brave servants of God refused to bow down and worship any other God of King Nebuchadnezzar, or golden image of him. They told the king, who threatened to throw them into a fiery furnace if they refused to bow down to him; that if we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God that we serve is able to deliver us from it, and He will deliver us from your majesty’s hand. Even if He does not, we want you to know we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold that you have set up.
God called me back to Him by His living word, and the testimony of these brave men. There is a whole lot more to this story, but after reading this story, the Lord told me that everything that is written in His word was meant to bring life, direction, warning and protection. He emphasized the extreme importance of His living word, and it will keep me on the right path in life, and I should read it every day.
I shared this story to show how God directed my steps to His living word so that I would be saved from the mess I was in. Only God gives us life, He breathes us into existence; through His living word, He directs all of our steps. I am forever grateful for this love that was shown to me, and for all the love He has for each one of us who He calls when we are not even looking for Him. Thank you, Lord!!
