More Than Life
“You are my God. I worship You.
In my heart, I long for You, as I would long for
A stream in a scorching desert. I have seen Your power
and Your Glory in the place of worship. Your love means more than life to
me, and I praise You. As long as I live, I will pray to You.
I will sing joyful praises and be filled with excitement like a guest at a
banquet.” Psalms 63:1-5
King David wrote many Psalms to God, this was one of many writings that David wrote- most were written as a song he sang to Him.
Many of us search all our lives to have a thirst for love of a parent, a child, a sibling, a spouse or partner quenched. Often, we receive a desert instead. Those who were adored, supported, worshipped, taken well care of as they developed emotionally, had their thirst quenched for a time. Then each person adopts their own places of worship, where they may look for the glory that can be received in that place of acceptance, support, life in general.
I am convinced that wherever we look to find that power, that glory-we will fall short of the place of intimacy with a mighty God. People will always disappoint us, but knowing the love of God means more than life. As we age there are fewer people in our lives as we watch friends, loved ones leave this world. There is such comfort to me in knowing that the God who created me will walk hand and hand with me all the rest of my life. My heart and breath cries out all the days of my life , for every sweet moment in His presence. I am never alone.
